Shibori – Memory on Cloth
Shibori is an ancient Japanese art form of creating patten and texture on cloth and paper. Roughly translated the word means ‘to wring, to bind, to compress’ in Japanese. Traditionally indigo is used to create beautiful blue and white patterns.
After years of looking at pictures of these pretty white and blue patterns, I decided to shake things up a bit. My own practise has developed beyond the tradition. It is a very versatile art form, so many feelings can be created through careful choice of colour, textile and technique.
I experiement with modern materials and methods to create vibrant textiles.
